Don’t you love the fun poster board put together by VI AT LA JOLLA VILLAGE for Spark Club? ?? August's Spark Club was all about Machines of the Past, and it was a total hit! Michelle Wile, our Director of Care, brought in a thoughtful collection of trinkets that the residents loved exploring. We wrapped it all up with a quiz featuring 35 old machines (most of which our residents guessed correctly). A mix of nostalgia and connection! It was a mix of nostalgia, laughter, and connection. #CommunityEngagement #SeniorCare #HomeCare

Caregivers, hydration matters. ?? Summer heat can sneak up fast, especially for older adults. This helpful video is a great reminder of how important it is to keep an eye on fluid intake and encourage regular sips throughout the day! #CaregiverTips #SeniorCare

In this video, I sit with someone living with dementia and demonstrate a simple, calm way to encourage hydration without confrontation. You’ll notice that when I ask if she’s thirsty, she doesn’t take a sip right away. But a few moments later, with a gentle verbal cue “go ahead and take a sip," she drinks. This is a great example of why non-confrontational dementia care is so important. Instead of listing all the medical reasons why someone should drink water (risk of dehydration, UTIs, hot weather, doctor’s orders, etc.), I focus on natural, low-pressure interaction. No arguments, no persuasion, just support and patience. ? If you care for someone with dementia and they’re refusing to drink water, forgetting to hydrate, or showing signs of dehydration, this video offers a gentle strategy that may help. ? Watch for: - A real-life example of how to support hydration - The power of simple cues in dementia care - Why asking doesn’t always work, but offering calmly can ??
